FAQ

  • You may wonder if there is a difference between counseling and therapy. I can appreciate the confusion as both terms are used. Without getting too complicated, for our purposes, the terms may be used interchangeably. We can refer to the process of meeting together, one-on-one, in a confidential and safe space to discuss and work through your challenges as either counseling or therapy.

  • Counseling may help those struggling with depression, anxiety, stress, anger, chronic pain, a lack of direction in life or similar types of personal challenges. You can learn more here.

  • Counseling is $135. I am an in-network provider with Cigna, Premera, and Kaiser (PPO only) insurance plans, or cash pay. Sessions are 55 minutes in length.

  • I offer two low fee slots on my schedule. Please contact me regarding availability and specifics.

  • While I draw from a variety of approaches, a main operating framework I use for our work together is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). You can learn more about it here. In addition, I am client-centered, collaborative and meet you where you are at.

  • When we talk about counseling or therapy, it usually means our mental well-being needs attention. You might be dealing with a lot of stress or feeling sad, making it tough to handle life's ups and downs. The important thing is, these challenges affect how we function. Our relationships, work, school, and social life can suffer. Our performance might drop, and we might not approach life the same way. Emotions can get a bit unpredictable—maybe more anxious, sad, or angry. People close to us might notice something's not quite right. Counseling provides a safe and confidential space to talk about how we feel, discuss our challenges, share difficult experiences and work through our troubles.

If you are functioning in life and your mental health is well, but perhaps struggle in a specific area(s), desire behavior change, need to define or redifne meaning, values, purpose or other life challenges, then coaching may be more of what you are looking for rather than mental health counseling.

From a pragmatic perspective, coaching is not something that would be covered/reimbursed by insurance. Coaching also is not covered by HIPPA or other privacy practices.

In addition, if you wanted to process trauma or emotions, coaching is not the space to accomplish this. You would want to seek out a licensed professional, such as a mental health counselor (like myself), an MSW, or psychologist who is trained in these matters.

If coaching seems like a better fit for you, send me an email and we can chat regarding possible options.

  • As a general policy 24-hour notice is required for cancellations to avoid paying a cancellation fee of $135 (not be covered by insurance). If you cancel with less than 24-hr notice there is a $60 fee. However, life can be hectic, we get sick, unexpected circumstances come up that are outside our control, etc. As a result you may need to cancel with less than 24-hour notice. My request is that you communicate with me - in advance and things generally work out. Generally I will give a pass for the first cancellation with less than 24-hour notice.

No shows are charged $135 - not covered by insurance. One no show is allowed as sometimes we forget. A second will be billed $135. A third will be billed $135 and no further counseling appointments will be scheduled.

  • If you know you will be late for an appointment, please call or text to notify me - 360-474-7016. I will generally call or text if you are 10 minutes late and I haven’t heard from you. If we don’t connect or you will be more than 20 minutes late, then your appointment will be cancelled. If possible we can reschedule to another day/time pending availability. If you are normally seen in-person and you need to reschedule, it’s possible that this may need to occur via Telehealth.
